Lighter, smarter and greener: KegCycle - the beer keg of the future

BLOG - OVERVIEW
A freshly tapped beer always tastes good, but what if the packaging could be refreshing too? Together with Rekeg Solutions, we are working on KegCycle: a modular and reusable plastic beer keg. It lasts longer, creates less waste, uses no rinse water and simplifies logistics. Awel santé.

Circular design in practice

With KegCycle, we go beyond recycling: we design beer kegs that are fully reusable and easily disassembled. Thanks to the modular construction, worn parts can be easily replaced and recycled, without unnecessary waste. The parts are produced locally, while Westlandia is responsible for the assembly, collection and disassembly of the kegs that reach the end of their useful life. The result? Less waste and less waste.

Less water consumption, more efficiency

Traditional metal beer kegs require intensive cleaning with water and chemical rinses. KegCycle eliminates that step thanks to a recyclable inner bag, eliminating the need for breweries to use water or rinsing agents. This reduces the ecological impact, but also makes the system accessible to small and medium-sized breweries without automatic rinse lines.

Smarter logistics with online tracking

Each barrel is equipped with a tracking module that collects real-time information on location, temperature and movement. This allows Rekeg Solutions to know exactly where the barrels are, when they are empty and when they need to be picked up. This optimizes transportation, prevents waste and allows for fewer barrels in circulation.

Supported by Flanders Circular

The project runs from December 31, 2024 to December 31, 2025 and receives support from Flanders Circular / OVAM. Together we are taking an important step towards a more circular and sustainable beer sector.
